Both China and Germany have established, internationally recognized research communities in Wearable Computing. Initial contacts have shown significant potential for cooperation and joint projects. The overall aim of the workshop is to make concrete steps towards such cooperation. To this end the workshop program has been designed to
- provide an overview of the research directions and strengths in Germany and China. To this end, researchers representing key areas in each country have been invited and will present their visions and results;
- start bilateral discussion between possible cooperation partners based on the above overview;
- propose and initiate concrete steps towards joint projects. Such projects would be expected to develop in three stages:
-
- informal cooperation directed towards joint publications on specific constrained topics;
- developing large projects based on exchanges of students and research visits by academic staff, as well as
- joint proposals for larger long term projects
- agree on a specific measure for keeping the discussion going. This could include
-
- establishment of electronic forums, joint www site and electronic newsletter.
- concepts for the use of new social media like Skype conference,
- establishing an official coordinating body to be anchored within respective relevant organizations in China and Germany, and
- planning follow up workshops.
