Dipl.-Inf. Xin Xing works as research scientist at the Centre for Computing and Communication
Technologies (TZI) of the University of Bremen since June 2008. Her research interests lie in the
field of statistical learning methods, probabilistic reasoning over time, knowledge representation,
and wearable computing in eHealth. Her doctoral thesis focuses on the development of a
diagnostic and prognostic model for monitoring chronic patients’ health status individually and
real-timely, based on patients’ vital signs data and their environmental data gathered by various
sensors. In TZI, she works in the EU funded eHealth and wearable computing project
CHRONIOUS, which aims to define a European framework for a generic health status monitoring
platform schema addressing people with chronic health conditions. From March to May 2010, she
has visited the Mobile Computing Center (directed by Prof. Dr. Dongyi Chen) of the University of
Electronic Science and Technology of China (UESTC) for scientific exchange. During this period,
she has co-prepared the first Sino-German Wearable Computing Advanced Workshop
(www.wearcom.org, funded by the Sino-German Center for Research Promotion). In April 2008,
she received her diploma degree with distinction in computer science at the University of Bremen.
Her diploma thesis is in the field of spontaneous decision-making methods in multiagent system.
She has received the third place of the Contact Software Sponsorship Award 2008 (Contact
Software GmbH) for her thesis. Her thesis has also been selected as the best three participants for
the prize of the best diploma or master thesis of a female student 2009, which was awarded by the
Computer Science Faculty Association of Universities in the Federal Republic of Germany
(Fakultätentag Informatik). During the study she was employed by the TZI as student assistant for
three years (2005-2008) and has participated in a wearable computing project for the development
of a wearable maintenance system for the engineer crew (with the cooperation of an aircraft company).
